Our final 50th Anniversary trip was in November with a marvelous cruise on Portugal's Douro River and three days in Paris with friends. Despite a bit of soggy weather on a few days, it was a spectacular trip filled with more scenery and breathtaking views than could have been imagined. The Douro River may be the most relaxing and beautiful river cruise we've ever taken. Once again, our intrepid travel agent John set up a terrific itinerary, and we were traveling with 50 others from, or with roots in, Pittsburgh! The river boat we were on only has 106 passengers, and our group was about 1/2 of that total! Great people all, and all of them were such fun to be around! We started with two days in Lisbon, a city we've visited before, and would return to again and again in the future. The highlight was our afternoon food and beverage tour of the city, followed by our transit to Porto (via Coimbra to see their magnificent university library and chapel). The next six days featured cruising the Douro, visiting remarkable small towns and cities highlighted by the excellent Portuguese cuisine and port wines. At the end of the cruise we transited to Paris with six friends, attended a performance at the famous Moulin Rouge and terrific private tours of Versailles and the Louvre. |
